I started getting more involved and seeing my pictures go around personal profiles on social media, I saw how much people cared about my work and how personal it was to them (you don’t get that in commercial world). I saw how much value these photos were to the bride and groom, and the whole wedding party too. When I show my pictures to brides and I see their eyes light up, it’s the best feeling you can have as a photographer. Not only being able to take a stunning shot, but also capture the emotion and the moment that will only happen once.
Why I Love Shooting Weddings

Our first wedding together was too much fun, and after that I was eager to get to the next one. The adrenalin rush that I had that day, is something I never experienced before. I was on the spot for 10 hr straight! First is entering a room of a busy bride and bridesmaids getting ready, making it look perfect on the spot, having only 10 minutes to shoot her pre prep portrait, trying to remember names of 15 new people in that room, then the first look (you can’t mess that up), all the locations and ideas that I had to come up with in no time being in a space I’ve never been before (talking creative on crack), the frozen position I was in during the ceremony trying to get the perfect shot of the kiss, and then all the fun I had shooting the dance party! You don’t get that in the studio!

I was hooked! And though I continued to photograph commercial work, I shot weddings on weekends during summers. It was fun and plus I got to eat cake at the end of the night!
I never saw myself as a wedding photographer, even when I enrolled into the photography program. I was always more of a studio photographer, lifestyle and portraits were more my thing. I liked taking an hour or two to get the shots done. Then I bumped into Stephanie Behrens, an amazing wedding photographer based in Houston TX. She needed a second shooter and asked me to help, I agreed without knowing what I got myself into:)
I like photographing weddings because they are real… People fall in love and get married, it's a part of life, a natural cycle of events. And I never had that shooting commercial work; because magazine covers are not real, they are a glimpse of what a person would look after several professionals worked on them for hours. The picture itself might be beautiful, but without emotional attachment it means nothing. It is the abundance of emotions in weddings that made me fall in love with shooting them. And yes I still tear up a little every ceremony I photograph:)
I hope you enjoyed reading this post. If you have a wedding coming up and need help, please don’t hesitate to contact. Even if it’s not about photography, I’ve shot many weddings and know all the do's and don'ts. I also was a bride myself, so I know all about the stress. I’ll be more than happy to share all the resources and helpful advice.
